About our Challenge

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

Like a lot of ordinary people we want to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and discover if we are capable of undertaking this huge challenge in such an extreme environment. The Talisker Whisky, Atlantic Row is billed as ‘THE WORLD'S TOUGHEST ROW’. With an estimated crossing time of anything between 35 to 90 days there are lots of unknowns to tackle along the way.

Meet The 'Ordinary' Middle-aged Men

My name is David Baxter, I'm known to my friends and family as "Blue" a nickname I've had since I was a boy. I'm 47 years old, I grew up in Lechlade on Thames a town in the Cotswolds also the highest navigable point of the River Thames.

I am a 49 year old, ordinary middle-aged man with, what my daughters kindly term as a 'fatpack'. In 2003 I stumbled upon a copy of 'Bold man of the Sea' by Jim Shekdhar in a local bookshop. A seed was sown and I added crossing an ocean to my bucket list.

Days until the race!
